How do pimples form?

Pimples form when the skin's tiny openings, or pores, which are connected to hair follicles, become clogged. These pores link the skin's surface to the sebaceous glands, which produce an oily substance known as sebum. Sebum is continually released in small amounts to carry dead skin cells up to the surface, where they can be washed away.
